ANNUAL REPORT
1979

Tasmanian Sea Canoeing Club.
The Secretary
G.P.O. Box 599F,

We can look back on the past year with a sense of achievement. The club started with a strong nucleus of dedicated sea paddlers and they have been active right through the year, in all parts of the state. Not only has the time been spent on water, but many hours have gone into thought, design, and redesign of a number of ideas, and continual meetings have seen an exchange of ideas. We are indeed fortunate in having a very qualified canoe designer in our midst and the performances of Adrian Dean’s Greenlander is self evident. We have endeavoured to publicise the sport with reports to canoe magazines, and the press, and this has led to requests from various bodies for guest speakers from our club, most of this load falling upon Tony Gaiswinkler’s capable shoulders. This publicity has also led to a growing number of sea kayaks being built and newcomers joining our ranks. Although one of the smallest clubs in the state we are also one of the most active, on the water and at TCA level.
On Saturday June 9th we mounted a well presented display at Salamanca Place as part of Wilderness Day celebrations. This included four display boards of photos and maps, and several sea kayaks, and members were on hand to give further information.
Although the long trips seem to gain the publicity they are by no means more important than the numerous day trips continually being done, it is on these trips we gain our experience necessary for the longer trips, the learning process is never complete. It is very pleasing to see paddlers from other clubs joining novice sea trips and swelling the numbers (21 on the Deep Glen Bay trip).
Congratulations to Peter Hall on election as our first Commodore, and to his election as chairman of the ACF Sea Touring Committee. His organizational ability and diplomacy are beyond question.
I look forward to the coming year in anticipation of continuing expansion of our activities.

Laurie Ford
Sec/Treas.
